    @iiyonite I still read this as "We need to have some form of access to encrypted data at-rest and in-transit, and we have heard that backdoors are bad, but smart people need to do something that they keep telling us doesn't work. Just work harder and you will find a way."

      @iiyonite What keeps being missed is an honest discussion of the abuse potential. What if we had a way to backdoor E2EE without a backdoor (a strong assumption, but let's discuss)? Who would have that access, and what would be the oversight, enforced using technical means?

        @iiyonite Second, there's the same "technology companies and academia are invited to interact with us - if only they tried, they would surely find a way". That rhetoric has been used again and again and it is dangerous.
