    1. On the Zoom paid-only E2EE debate: @alexstamos has explained some reasons for this current strategy (abuse of free accounts), which I can relate to from experience with other free accounts systems. However, I don't believe the "easy way out" is the right one in this case.

    Offering security/privacy benefits only for paid accounts has clear political consequences. In the current climate, this is problematic. While it is one mitigation against accounts abuse, it is not the only one. Other barriers for account creation than payment are possible.

      Artificial slowdowns on account creation, requiring some form of identity proof besides possession of a throw-away email address, binding to stable hardware ID for the account creation itself, etc. are all possibilities. They have different trade-offs, but don't require payment.
