        @reyammer I don't agree that this is an overreaction. A study was performed on unwitting human subjects without ethical review. The main intent of the study was to mislead. Not assuming bad intent for all the involved commits would be negligent at this point. Same rules for other actors.

      @reyammer If anything, academic studies run from a respected University should have a much higher standard of conduct than independent researchers and contributors, because they generally are assumed to be trustworthy. Exploiting such trust is simply unacceptable. Peer review failed here.

    @reyammer The worst part is that this seems to be repeated abuse of trust. The authors have been told by members of the academic security community that such behavior is problematic, and why, yet they seem to have started the exact same process again. Benefit of doubt is hard to give now.
