Wow, there is some movement on a 14 years old bug to support direct importing of ICS files into Thunderbird/Lightning (and therefore also from email attachments, hopefully). I was close enough to (again) try other email/calendar clients because of this. bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=357480
