xda-developers.com/google-android-digital-drivers-license/ discussing some of the support for electronic ID that we do in AOSP. While the ISO 18013-5 mobile driving license can be implemented fully on top of existing NFC and other Android APIs, platform support can enable advanced security, privacy, and usability.

A previous paper with @mihoelzl and @_mroland gives some (academic) context for eID on mobile devices: michaelhoelzl.eu/files/pdfs/Hoelzl2017IFIPFull.pdf (ins.jku.at/research/publications/real-world-identification-extensible-and-privacy-preserving-mobile-eid). There are still lots of interesting side questions for future work in case anybody is looking for a PhD topic ;-)
